Now here's a fruit you don't come across often. Jackfruit has the flavor alchemy of banana, pineapple and mango. Our dried Jackfruit slices are thin, soft, chewy, and full of tropical flavor.
The Jackfruit Tree is believed to be indigenous to the Southwestern rain forests of India. It is widely cultivated in tropical regions of India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brazil for its fruit, seeds and wood. During peak season the Jackfruit tree can bear as many as 250 large fruits and is considered the largest tree borne fruit in the world. About 100g of edible jackfruit bulbs provide 95 calories, which replenishes energy and revitalizes the body instantly.
Jackfruit is rich in dietary fiber. Jackfruit is a great source of antioxidant vitamin C, which helps the body develop resistance to infectious agents and scavenge free radicals. It is one of the rare fruits that is rich in B-complex group of vitamins, which is critical to metabolism, nervous system, vital organs, eyes, muscles, skin and hair since the human body cannot manufacture B-complex vitamins on it's own. Jackfruit contains vitamin B-6, niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid and it is a good source of the minerals potassium, magnesium, manganese and iron. Potassium helps control heart rate and blood pressure too.
Jackfruit sliced and mixed with grated coconut, honey or agave nectar and banana slices is commonly served on festive occasions in India. Try it out yourself!
